ResMed CEO Named San Diego Public Company CEO of the Year

09/30/2020

San Diego Business Journal recognizes Mick Farrell for overseeing ResMed’s pivot to providing a record number of ventilators and new digital health solutions critical in the world’s fight against COVID-19

SAN DIEGO, September 30, 2020 – Today ResMed CEO Mick Farrell was named Public Company CEO of the Year by the San Diego Business Journal.

Farrell was honored for leading ResMed’s swift pivot from producing mostly sleep apnea devices to making over 150,000 lifesaving ventilators and bilevel devices in the first six months of the COVID-19 crisis – more than 3.5 times what ResMed produced in the same timeframe last year.

A global leader in digital health, ResMed also launched new digital solutions months ahead of their pre-pandemic schedule. These include remote monitoring of ventilation patients across Europe, among the hardest-hit regions in April and May, and a digital tool for enabling American equipment providers to remotely set up their sleep apnea patients on new masks and devices.

ResMed achieved this while prioritizing the safety of over 7,500 ResMedians worldwide to ensure their wellbeing and ResMed’s business continuity – critical to the lives of millions.

“I’ve always been proud to be a ResMedian, and even more so during this global pandemic,” Farrell said. “Our team’s hard work and dedication during these unique circumstances has allowed us to help save the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around the world – while at the same time accelerating the launch of digital health solutions to help clinicians remotely diagnose, treat, and manage sleep apnea, COPD, and asthma patients, both during this pandemic and well beyond it.

“I owe a huge thanks to every ResMedian for their part in designing, manufacturing, and delivering cloud-connected medical devices and digital health solutions that have changed over 110 million lives these last 12 months. I would especially like to honor the frontline healthcare workers, including pulmonary physicians, respiratory therapists, and nurses for the heroic work they continue to do for patients around the world.”

ResMed is a top-five global producer of hospital-to-home ventilators, a top-two producer of bilevel non-invasive ventilation devices, and the world’s leader in cloud-connected positive airway pressure (PAP) devices, masks and accessories for sleep apnea and COPD, and digital sensors for tracking COPD and asthma inhaler use. ResMed is also the leader in out-of-hospital healthcare software helping customers in home medical equipment, skilled nursing facilities, home health, hospice, life plan communities and private duty home care.

Farrell’s recognition will be featured in a special edition of the San Diego Business Journal, which will be published online and in print on October 12.
