San Diego Business Journal recognizes Mick Farrell for leading ResMed’s efforts to produce 52,000-plus ventilators during COVID-19
SAN DIEGO – June 29, 2020 – ResMed CEO Mick Farrell today was named one of San Diego’s “50 Leaders Making a Difference” by the San Diego Business Journal.
Farrell was recognized for his leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, an honor he shares with all 7,500 ResMedians worldwide.
“We helped save lives with tens of thousands of ventilators during this crisis, while also helping millions of people with sleep apnea, COPD, asthma, and out-of-hospital care,” Farrell said. “Thank you to all ResMedians and countless more heroic frontline healthcare workers for their tireless dedication throughout this pandemic.”
During COVID-19’s initial outbreak in January, ResMed quickly adapted to meet the unprecedented global demand for lifesaving ventilators and bilevel devices. The company shifted manufacturing resources to triple last year’s output of ventilators and increase mask production tenfold.
So far, ResMed has tripled its January–March output compared to the same period last year, producing over 52,000 ventilators. Today it continues maximizing production as global demand remains high.
Throughout the crisis, Farrell has prioritized employee safety as high as patient safety, leading a swift transition to working from home for every ResMedian except those essential to product manufacturing, technical service, or distribution. For those essential workers, Farrell and his global Operations team implemented workplace safety measures that remain in place today, including PPE distribution, contactless temperature checks, batched shifts, physical distance between employees, as well as separate entrances, bathrooms, and elevators for each shift.
Farrell’s and ResMed’s COVID-19 response story will be featured in a special edition of the San Diego Business Journal, which will be published online and in print today.
