One example was provided by Bobby Ghoshal, chief technology officer of ResMed. Users of ResMed’s sleep apnea device often have comorbid conditions such as diabetes, congestive heart failure or cancer. With more than 6 million devices around the world producing data on 3.5 billion nights of sleep, “you can take our data set and do a longitudinal study and see how treatment of sleep apnea affects the other comorbidities,” said Ghoshal, thereby opening up opportunities for interventions to prevent those conditions worsening.
